Sebastiaan De Cocq
Biography
Sebastiaan De Cocq obtained his master’s degree Research in Public Administration and Organizational Science in 2017. This unique program specifically prepares students for an academic career. His personal and professional interests regarding sport and society are comprehensive. Topics as social mobility through sport to spectator violence have not been left untouched in his studies and research projects. In his doctoral research, Sebastiaan addresses why, when, how and to extent to which elite sport can reinforce community sport club memberships. In addition to his doctoral thesis, Sebastiaan is currently involved as working partner in the research projects ‘Topsport als middel’ (elite sport as a societal asset, 2019-2021) and ‘embedding Olympism in Society’ (2020-2023 Chair Baillet Latour) that aim to assess the public value and societal impact of elite sport. Over the past years, Sebastiaan assisted the full academic staff in their teaching activities by taking care of administrative tasks and the organisation and supervision of master thesis students.
