Jan-Willem Van Der Roest

Jan-Willem van der Roest works as assistant professor and consultant at Utrecht University School of Governance. Jan-Willem completed a PhD on consumerism in voluntary sports clubs in 2015. Since 2018, Jan-Willem has shifted his research interest towards elite sports policy as well. He is specifically interested in the societal value of elite sports and the ways in which elite sports can contribute to public values in society. Jan-Willem has several years of experience in policy research and consultancy and has worked for national governments (Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports), local governments and sports organizations (NOC*NSF, several national sport federations). Jan-Willem was the lead researcher in the elite sports climate survey in The Netherlands in 2019.
